Being vs Being

I've realized something while doing these past few posts. Alien beings. Human beings. This being the case. Be-ing and being, is that just a weird trick of English? When we refer to some entity, we use a word that is "be" with an "ing" at the end, which has a different meaning... or does it?

We don't refer to pets or other animals as beings. Yet, I've heard Alien Beings all my life (not in my head, just the term). So, we define a being as some intelligent entity that we feel would be our equals? Does our language tell us that as beings, are are spirits that "are", hence "be"?

Sorry, not going anywhere with this, just taking a mental breather.
